What is Art Therapy?
In art therapy, art becomes a tool to express and understand yourself. Sometimes, finding the right words can be very difficult. Art therapy gives us a nonverbal way to express what we are holding within.
Art allows us to access deep memories, images, and emotions within our mind and body. In this form of therapy, we can access memories held within our body and learn to release what keeps us stuck. Art therapy can even speed up our healing process, because it’s a way for us to access underlying issues in a more effective way.
In art therapy, it doesn't matter if you're "good" at art, and I am not here to judge what you create. No artistic skill is required at all. The focus is instead on what your process brings up for you, and how I can support you to make meaning from it.
Art therapy combines the creative process and psychotherapy, facilitating self-exploration and understanding. Using imagery, colour and shape as part of this creative therapeutic process, thoughts and feelings can be expressed that would otherwise be difficult to articulate.
