My Experience of Art Therapy

My passion for art therapy is rooted in my experience of it. As part of my learning process, I was involved in a group art therapy experiential, which allowed me to experience the power of art therapy for myself. Art therapy remains an important element of my own self-care and healing journey. My portfolio (above) provides examples of the projects and work that occur in an art therapy room. While this portfolio features the product of my work, it is important to honour art therapy as an ongoing process. That process, and what comes up in creating, is what is emphasized.

You don’t need to be “good” at art to get the most out of art therapy.

Personal Symbols

It’s common for personal symbols to come up over and over again in the exploration of art therapy. My logo holds some of my own very special personal symbols, as featured in my portfolio work.

The hand represents my role as therapist, in holding space for my clients, as well as their experience and process.

The rose represents these very experiences. We each have flowers and thorns that may come up in a therapy session. Its important we hold space for both ends of the spectrum, because there are valuable things to learn in both our sorrow and our joy.

Green is a very grounding colour to me, and in art therapy, it’s always important to remain grounded in our process.
