Questions About the Process

  • The first session is a little different from those that follow: think of it as a starting point. It’s a space for us to get to know each other and begin building a foundation for our work together.

We’ll go over your intake forms, talk about what’s bringing you to therapy, and explore what you'd like to get out of the process. I’ll ask some questions to better understand your history, needs, and goals, and I’ll also introduce a few approaches I think could be a good fit.

You’re welcome to ask questions at any point or bring a list of things you’d like to talk about - but there’s no pressure to share everything right away. We’ll move at a pace that feels safe for you, and it’s completely normal if the session feels a little awkward or tender at first. Many people find the first session takes emotional energy, so I often suggest building in time for rest or self-care afterward if possible.

This is your space. I’m here to support you in feeling seen, heard, and supported from the very beginning.

  • Each session is uniquely shaped by you. I take a client-centered approach, meaning I tailor our time together based on your needs, energy, and goals. Some people arrive ready to dive into something specific. Others come in unsure, and we work together to explore what's showing up in that moment. No two sessions look the same, and that’s the beauty of this work.

That said, therapy is a shared process. I believe that you are the expert on your own life, and I will always trust that you know what feels most important to explore. I’ll help guide and support the process - but I won’t take the wheel. Part of the work might be learning how to name your needs, bring forward what’s weighing on you, or even simply say, “I don’t know where to start today.”

Over time, we’ll find a rhythm that works. Some sessions may be reflective and insight-based, others may involve tangible tools, creative expression, or grounding into the body. The space is flexible, but it’s also yours to step into.

  • Sessions are 50 minutes long, with the option for occasional extended sessions (85 minutes). Most clients meet weekly or bi-weekly depending on their needs and preferences.

  • That’s totally up to you. Some people come in with a short-term goal and feel complete after a few months. Others stay longer to explore deeper patterns or receive ongoing support.

  • Yes! All sessions take place virtually via secure video platform. You can join from anywhere in Ontario. All you need is a private space and internet access.

  • Yes, research shows that online therapy can be just as effective as in-person sessions. The quality of support, connection, and therapeutic insight remains the same. The biggest difference is simply the physical space.

Instead of meeting in an office, you’ll join from wherever feels comfortable for you - your living room, a cozy corner, or a quiet office space. Virtual therapy offers added flexibility and accessibility, especially for those with busy schedules, mobility limitations, or a preference for being in their own environment.

We’ll meet through a secure, PHIPA-compliant platform designed specifically for therapy. All you need is a stable internet connection, a private space, and a device that works with Google Chrome (like a laptop, tablet, or even a phone).

For many clients, virtual sessions feel just as connected and personal - sometimes even more so, because you’re showing up in your own space, in your own way. The heart of therapy stays the same, no matter the format.

  • Yes - your privacy matters deeply to me. I use a secure, PHIPA-compliant platform for all virtual sessions to ensure your personal health information is protected. Sessions are held in a confidential space on my end, and I encourage you to find a private, quiet space on your end too.

  • Therapy with me is relaxed and human. You’re welcome to have tea, sit with your pet, or stretch if needed. Some clients like to doodle or bring something creative to the session, and that’s always encouraged.

  • As a Registered Psychotherapist and Art Therapist, I do not provide formal diagnoses - that’s typically the role of a psychologist or psychiatrist. That said, part of our work may involve exploring how you relate to certain traits, symptoms, or patterns, especially if you’ve wondered about a particular diagnosis.

If a diagnosis is something you’re curious about, I’m always happy to explore that with you - including offering education, language, or referrals if that’s a helpful direction.

  • My practice is best suited for individuals, couples, and families looking to support personal growth, life transitions, relationship dynamics, trauma recovery, ADHD support, and more.

If you're looking for long-term psychiatric care, formal assessments for diagnosis (like autism or ADHD testing), or specialized treatment for active substance use or eating disorders, I may not be the best fit - but I’m always happy to offer referral ideas if you’re unsure where to start.

  • Many extended health benefit plans do cover sessions with a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) - but coverage can vary depending on your provider and plan.

It’s important to check that your benefits specifically include psychotherapy or Registered Psychotherapists, as some plans still list coverage only for psychologists or social workers. That said, more and more insurers in Ontario are now recognizing and reimbursing psychotherapy services, especially as awareness around mental health continues to grow.

I’ll provide detailed receipts you can submit directly to your insurance provider. If you're unsure, it's a good idea to contact your benefits provider and ask the following:

    • Does my plan cover services from a Registered Psychotherapist?

    • How much is covered per session, and is there an annual maximum?

If your plan doesn’t currently offer coverage, I also recommend advocating for it during benefits renewal.

  • You’re not alone - a lot of my clients are new to therapy. I’ll guide you through the process and create a space where you can show up as you are, no experience necessary.

  • I do not offer crisis services or emergency mental health care. If you are in immediate distress, please contact your local hospital, crisis line, or emergency services. In Canada, you can also access support through the Talk Suicide Canada Service at 1-833-456-4566.

While I provide meaningful therapeutic support, I am not available outside of session times for urgent or emergency needs.
